YWAM Medical Ships - Australia

png people waving goodbye

Have you ever wanted to do something exciting with your life?

To give back?

To pass on your skills and experience to someone else?

Volunteering on YWAM's Medical Ship is an adventure filled opportunity where you can make a real difference and experience the beautiful Papua New Guinea culture.

Our vessel is fully equipped with an on board clinic where we partner with local health care providers to provide quality training and medical care to some of the world's most remote areas. The mission is to see quality of life for the people of PNG in the areas of health, training, and community development.

Sign up to work with us for three weeks or longer.

The YWAM Medical Ships - Australia 2013 video helps encapsulate the outcomes achieved in PNG since 2010.

Being able to come here (Papua New Guinea) and give; it's given my holiday purpose.

Marine Volunteers

Sailing the uncharted waters of Papua New Guinea's river deltas is the experience of a lifetime! We intentionally sail to some of the most difficult to reach places in the world to meet the people in isolated villages to bring education and health.

We need qualified marine professionals to help us get medical care to these remote areas in PNG. Your marine skills can give others a better chance at life!

Marine Volunteers Needed:

  • Marine Engineers
  • Deck Officers
  • Deck Hands

It's great to know that my skills as a professional mariner are a vital part of bringing an extraordinary team of international health professionals directly into communities often struggling for survival.
Jeremy Schierer - Ship Captain - USA

Training & Medical Volunteers

YWAM Medical Ships - Australia (YWAM MSA) facilitates outreaches with its Medical Ship and land-based teams to rural areas of PNG.

The clinics include: dentistry, primary health care, immunisations, antenatal checks, malaria tesing and treatment, optometry, and ophthalmology. In addition, training programs for rural health care workers and various health promotion initiatives for school children and the general community run simultaneously to the clinics.

YWAM MSA has a strong focus on training and empowering local health care workers and villagers to be able to serve themselves.

Medical Volunteers Needed:

  • Doctors
  • Nurses
  • Midwives
  • Physiotherapists
  • Pharmacists
  • Dentists
  • Dental Assistants
  • Optometrists
  • Ophthalmologists
  • Ophthalmic Scrub Nurses
  • Orthoptists

My wife and I volunteered together with YWAM Medical Ships. I worked in the optometry clinic and my wife worked in the primary health care clinic. It was an incredible experience. This outreach was without a doubt some of the most rewarding work of our respective careers.
Gary Blake - Optometrist - Canada/Australia

General Volunteers

Wondering if you have anything to offer on board a medical ship?

Even if you're not qualified in marine or medical work, we require a number of people who are willing to do ANYTHING!

From cleaning and cooking, to registering patients and organising children's programs, there is a lot to be done and many adventures to be had!

Life changing! This opened my eyes to so many things I was so blind to before. So many hardships that all these people face every day, that we'd never have to worry about back home, it really opened my heart to make me want to do more.
Marissa Burns - Canada
